Lazy Liverpool Police Scam

Dear All,

A BTST Member, Dave, recently fell victim to possibly the World’s laziest “police” scammer…

This pillar of the community decided to simply wander out of Police HQ in Liverpool and proceed to pick off Motorists like fish in a barrel right outside, from the pavement.

In Dave’s own words:

“You can see from the dashcam how the policeman is hiding by the road signs on a different road”.

He was hiding right where the speed limit changes from 40mph to 30mph.

Sidenote: look at the photos; does this *look* like it should be a 30mph zone to you?…

Can you see him?
How about now?
Here he is…

And here’s our friend Dave, the Wanted Criminal, making his escape from the scene of the crime at a breakneck 41mph…

This is the very sort of speeding ticket that a good Solicitor should easily get thrown out in Court in my opinion.

If you have any dashcam footage of similar shenanigans going on around the country please do share it so we can show other Members what crafty tricks these scammers are up to.

All the best,

Adam
P.S. I’d be interested to hear your thoughts on this in the comments below!

  1. the money to pay for the scrounging spongers coming in the boats and living in luxury has to paid for somehow, this is probably the easiest revenue collector.

    • Correct. They ARE easy. Why? Because they don’t think the rules apply to them, that’s why.
The person in this instance is doing 41 in a 30 zone. How is that ‘picking on the motorist’ FFS?
I live 5-10 minutes walk from town. I guarantee I could walk into town and back right now and, if I were in that job, issue at least 3 tickets on the way. Going through red lights, parking illegally on pavements, using a mobile … it’s easy.
So, the solution is this. So the silly schoolgirl whining, take some responsibility for your actions, grow up and accept that, YES, the law applies to you too.

      • Probably the law does apply to everyone equally. But big BUT, the police and the judiciary fail to apply the law equally and thus they lose all respect. As for the council officials who make up speed limits specifically to raise revenue, which is also against the law, incidentally, words really do fail…

      • I disagree with you Pete , it’s on a change of speed ! From 40 to 30 so hide 150 metres down from there and the speed gun will clock you where it benefits them. Let me guess your one of them types that jumps on there breaks when you see a lowered speed sign? Setting up a speed trap in a constant speed area is legit, but this is an underhand tactic

  2. Just a thought I guess I am not the only person to be collared if some solicitor had a number of people could they all be appealed on the grounds the advertised location is another road than the one he was on #justathought

  3. This example undermines confidence, lowers their professionalism and trust. And this sort of action only goes to excuse some of the abuse they receive when sympathy runs thin.

    • Reducing speed limits to a point where they know motorists are going to get frustrated and then standing there catching them is a scam in my opinion. It’s certainly not about road safety

    • Scam-“ a dishonest scheme”

Do you think the police should act honestly?
      Do they?
Is it honest to set speed limits deliberately low and then choose a location to catch people- when there are multiple better ways to make roads and shops and houses safer, and improve the lives of people in the U.K.
Why are the authorities so obsessed with pretending to improve road safety? The U.K. is the 4th safest country in the world for road safety. So the Only reason for deliberately catching people out like this can Only be to raise money

  4. The motorist is always an easy target, reinforced by the continuous lowering of speed limits, the worst being in Wales where the limit is a ludicrous 20mph even on some roads that were previously 40mph. And 50mph on the M4 in Newport and Swansea causing massive queues often many miles long.
Travelling in lower gears increases pollution substantially. I thought the objective was moving towards net Zero ? You cant have it both ways !
The Police force is undermanned across the country and surely have better things to do that revenue collecting for the councils and government.
As a motorist I have never felt so oppressed. What do others think ?

    • Complete bo***cks.
I’m a motorist and never feel oppressed, but that’s because I’m a grown up.
I’m also a pedestrian. NOW your talking oppressed. A-hole motorists parking illegally on pavements, blocking them; blocking crossing points while waiting in traffic (including so called ‘professionals’); going through red lights; popping their little boy exhausts off a night time. The list is endless.
You’re not ‘oppressed’, your pathetically trying to avoid blame and responsibility. Grow up.

  5. I was always led to believe that temporary speed cameras had to be advertised by signage warning you of such a thing otherwise its entrapment and he was a traffic cop friend now retired. I now live in kinmel bay northwales and we have to go from 60 to 20 thats a 40mph drop and the police are ready to pounce 50yards up the road regulary to catch speeders.

  6. “…right where the speed limit changes from 40mph to 30mph.” Is that correct? Copper was standing at the corner of Juvenal Street. Dave was driving south on Scotland Road (A59). Dave had just come onto that road by having driven east via the Kingsway Tunnel (the first “Can you see him?” photo was taken to the left of the hatched area as tunnel traffic approaches Scotland Road). He’d have had a 40mph limit through the tunnel. But it’s signed down to 30 shortly after emerging from the tunnel and before traffic loops around the Bestway Cash and Carry to come up onto Scotland Road. Road.
Still sneaky behaviour by the solo copper but on this occasion I don’t think it’s arguable that the change of limit was near enough to be relevant. Dave had gone several hundred metres after the 30 sign. Looks like Dave was just caught out.
I don’t know the area but a few minutes with Streetview and http://www.openstreetbrowser.org (handy as it shows speed limits along roads) did the trick.

  7. The Police tell more lies than anybody I know how can you trust a Police officer unless you follow him around making sure he is honest they have even been done for murder and theft rape I know parents who have disowned there sons written them from their wills because they don’t like what they have become they are actually ashamed of them never mention their name very sad to do this to your own child I know some who was booked for going one mile over the limit by his sone after the court case he arrived home that night to find all his gear in cases at the front gate with a note saying don’t bother to come back or get in touch again good buy for ever very sad we taught you truth and honour you threw it all in our faces.

  8. I’ve seen them do the same in Towcester where the station is on a 30mph stretch just before the traffic lights.
Usually towards the end of the month when the cops need their KPIs topped up for their bonus, ie meet their required number of ‘collars felt’ over the preceding month.
Easy targets , soft underbelly or whatever you want to call us, means they can still get back into the warm and have their coffee and donuts in time to watch The Bill reruns.

  9. Traffic sign number 880 is the key to the defence. An enforcement location cannot be anywhere a police officer choses on a whim. It has to be a location agreed with the local authority and DoT where speeding is common. Once that is agreed “speed cameras” or “enforcement cameras” warning signs need to be posted at the beginning of the route. Also in a 30 mph area the last sign seen by the motorist, preferably in the same view as the camera location, is sign 880. A blue background sign with a camera logo above a small 30 roundel. Get the police in court and ask where sign 880 is located in front of this camera position.

  10. If motorists are unable to control their car to a specific speed limit maybe they should not be driving. If on the other hand you just drive at what ever speed you see fit there is a chance every so often you may get a ticket.

  11. A major problem is inconsistent criteria for local speed limits. They seem to be decided by different councils in different ways. We need a national strategy so that you can judge the speed limit by the nature of the road, rather than hoping to spot an all too rare speed limit sign. I know areas which look like 40mph but are 30mph and vice versa. 20mph or 30mph is another problem. I know areas crying out for a 20mph limit whereas others seem to have them unnecessarily. Redcar is a good example, 20mph on the sea front but 30mph on the High Street. Scarborough sea front needs a 20mph more than does Redcar with pedestrians all over the place on the road but it is 30mph there. Some rural areas on major roads in North Yorkshire have inexplicable 40mph limits when very similar places elsewhere have 60mph limits. One road in Thirsk alternates between 30mph and 40mph, catching many motorists out. A popular spot for local police mobile speed cameras! One stretch of main road in Wynyard, north of Middlesbrough, apparently catches out more motorists with its unnecessary 50mph limit than any other road in Cleveland. Nice little earner for the authorities.
Not sure whether it is generally incompetence or a widespread scam but there are certainly some local scams.

  12. Just shows how desperate they are to ROB us of our hard earned money, the old cliche “should be out catching the real criminals” yes speeding is wrong but such a small degree, then there’s the speedo, correct or not??? .
