Dear All,
I got pinged with an article from the Hereford Times this week that I thought you'd find interesting.
74 year old William Chinn from Ross-on-Wye was caught "speeding" in his Land Rover along a 40mph stretch of the A442 last September.
He was in Court in Worcester earlier this month.
The fact that this makes the "news" in England these days is quite incredible to me, although, sadly, not that surprising…
William pleaded guilty and was fined £384, plus £130 in costs, and a £154 "victim surcharge".
So that's £668 in total.
Who exactly the "victim" was remains unclear…
The diligent journalist at the Hereford Times neglected to publish how fast William was actually driving.
Perhaps because it would point out the ridiculousness of how Motorists are being persecuted on roads in the UK today?
Anyway, William was facing a ban for his crimes. But this is where it gets interesting…
His Solicitor conveyed to the magistrates what taking his licence would actually mean:
His business; his teaching in the community; his farming; his family; and his church would all be affected in one way or another.
And this is the important point: Despite facing a ban due to 'totting up', he didn't receive one.
This is why Mitigation is so essential to get right these days.
Even when there's no possibility of having a speeding ticket overturned on a technicality like calibration, paperwork, or road furniture/signage, successfully pleading Mitigation makes a *massive* difference to the outcome.

P.S. We had some technical issues when I sent the BTST Member Discount page out a couple of weeks ago. The page had been revamped with the new bigger discount and an internet gremlin got in there and broke the signup link!
It should all be fixed now — here's the link:
